A stirring and inspirational journey, full of adventure, courage, personal loss, family triumph, and breathtaking mountain visuals unfolds in a new IMAX® theatre film adventure from two-time Academy Award®-nominated producers of Everest . MacGillivray Freeman Films presents THE ALPS. Filled with majestic views of Switzerland's natural beauty, THE ALPS follows the true life story of mountaineer and journalist John Harlin III, who sets out on an epic personal journey to climb the deadly North Face of the Eiger, the stormiest, steepest peak in all of Europe -- forty years after the same mountain claimed the life of his larger-than-life father, climbing legend John Harlin II. In THE ALPS, Harlin faces head-on the family tragedy that has haunted him since age 9, when his father fell 4,000 feet to his death after his rope snapped near the Eiger's summit. The film chronicles Harlin's deep display of courage and determination in confronting his demons and finally freeing himself from the shadow of the Eiger.
