Our IMAX® Theatre accommodates the hearing and visually impaired Part of the TELUS World of Science™ - Edmonton core mandate is to make science and technology accessible to everyone. Our entire facility is indeed physically accessible, and it comprehensively accommodate hearing or visually impaired individuals. We have installed a pair of systems that enable both hearing and visually impaired visitors to fully enjoy the IMAX® experience at the TELUS World of Science™ - Edmonton. Closed Captioning Visitors with a hearing impairment can use a mirror platter, which is mounted on the seat in front of them, to read LED-produced text of the film that is reflected from an LED board mounted on the rear wall of the theatre. The Rear Window Captioning system will be supplied by Boston Light & Sound, IMAX Corporation, Data Display and WGBH. Descriptive Audio Pre-recorded scene-by-scene descriptions of what is being projected on the screen is provided through headsets via an infrared FM listening system to our visually impaired visitors, thereby greatly enhancing their IMAX experience. The Descriptive Video Service system is distributed by Digital Theatre Systems of Agoura Hills, California. - - - - - - Background In 2003, we have secured a total of $42,000 in funding towards the installation of a closed captioning and descriptive audio system in our IMAX® Theatre to better serve our hearing and vision-impaired visitors.
